Dog Licensing – it’s happening now! Licenses due by April 30!

Halfway through the 2026 dog licensing window, less than 100 of our town’s 900+ canines are licensed. We strongly encourage you to license your dogs at the earliest possible time to avoid late fees and civil forfeiture. Dog licenses are due by Thursday, April 30; late fees accrue thereafter. If the dog is not licensed by June, the law requires the assessment of a separate civil forfeiture fee, which amounts to an additional $25 per dog. Licensing your dog before the end of April avoids all these additional costs.

Dog licensing fees are $7.50 for a pup (6 months old or younger) and for an altered dog, $10.00 for an unaltered dog, $2.00 for the first dog owned by a resident 65 years old or older, and $20.00 for a kennel license (minimum of 5 dogs). If a dog you owned is deceased or no longer living in Grantham, please let us know by phone or email at the contact information below so we can remove the dog from our database. When notifying us, please provide all owner names the dog might be licensed under; this helps us locate and remove the correct pet.

Regular Office Hours: Monday-Thursday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm; Friday, 8:00 am - 12:00 pm and 1:00 - 4:00 pm.

PLEASE NOTE: Given that the town clerk works alone on Mondays, the office is closed for 15 minutes in mid-afternoon to run errands at the bank and post office. However, the exact time changes from week to week, depending on the volume of counter traffic on any given Monday. If you are needing to get in and out quickly, PLEASE call ahead (603-863-5608) to make sure the clerk is present at the time you'll be coming down.
