SCAM NOTIFICATION – WARNING TO RESIDENTS:

New Hampshire has recently seen a surge in multiple scam types.  Grantham PD has received many phone calls recently from residents regarding the following:

Fake Court and DMV Scams
The New Hampshire Department of Safety’s DMV warns that fraudulent text messages claim recipients have “unresolved traffic violations” and demand immediate payment to avoid penalties like license suspension or fines. These messages often include a link with “dmv-nh” in the URL to mimic an official site, but the DMV never sends payment requests via text. Residents are advised to delete such messages and contact the DMV directly at (603) 227-4000 if needed.

Separately, the Attorney General’s office has warned about scam texts impersonating the New Hampshire court system, including QR codes and “notice of hearing” messages. The state confirms it never sends QR codes or payment requests via text, and some messages contain outdated court references.

How to Protect Yourself

·         Never share personal or financial information over the phone or via links unless you initiated contact.

·         Verify official communications directly with the agency or company.

·         Report suspicious messages to the NH Consumer Protection Hotline at 1‑888‑468‑4454
